We are seeking a Sheet Metal Pre-Apprentice to become the newest member of our Team.

Position Purpose

Assist Sheet Metal Journeymen with various steps in the fabrication process, help maintain the cleanliness and safety of the shop, and help make deliveries to job sites when needed.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assisting in fabrication and installation of sheet metal fittings, including:
    • learning to use press brakes, shears, rollers
    • working with Journeymen to construct fabrications from customer drawings (involves custom fabricated items)
    • cutting, measuring, assembling, insulating, etc.
  • Assist with building maintenance (sweeping, shop clean up, organizing shop, etc.)
  • Grinding
  • Loading/unloading vehicles
  • Tow motor (forklift) operation
  • Deliveries to customer sites as needed
  • Pre-apprentices will initially be trained in the shop fabrication process but may also work in the field on installations at job sites as well.
  • Maintain a safe and Lean working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned


NOTE: Per union guidelines, sheet metal employees are not able to weld while in the pre-apprentice role. They are able to weld after they have begun the apprenticeship.

Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • High School diploma (required for apprenticeship)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Mathematical competency and strong reading comprehension
  • Current, valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong work ethic and attendance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
  • Must be able to stay on task and be self-motivated
  • Physical ability to climb, crawl, lift heavy items and work in a variety of environments, including indoor/outdoor, hot/cold weather, confined spaces, heights, etc. (any necessary safety training will be provided prior to entering these environments)
  • Interest in earning a sheet metal apprenticeship
